Our history
Established in 1988, Horizon was the first Registered Social Landlord based in West Lothian.
We had our roots in the organisation now known as Capability Scotland and took ownership of two ‘caring hostels’.
We've since had a vision of providing integrated housing for disabled people in communities where people could participate as ordinary and valued citizens and which supported their independent living.
Since then, we have designed and built over 800 homes in 11 local authority areas. Around 25% of these properties are designed to meet the specific needs of wheelchair users and all of its properties are barrier-free.
Partnerships with other organisations
Over the years, we have formed partnerships with other organisations so that people who need support can live in ordinary communities with the support they need.
We also work with Housing Options Scotland and Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living to increase access to housing services for our tenants and those in housing need. We are members of the West Lothian Development Alliance, Positive Action in Housing and Altrum.
Joining Link
After many years of reflection, we joined the Link group of housing, support, regeneration and social enterprise companies in November 2009.
We now work with all the Link partner companies to enhance the quality of services for Horizon tenants and to increase housing supply for disabled people, particularly wheelchair users.
