Lorna Cameron's 35-year career reaches its summit
Horizon Housing Association Chief Executive Lorna Cameron’s influential career in housing draws to a close later this year when she retires from her current role in November.
A respected advocate for accessible homes, one of Lorna’s last tasks in her 35 years of public service has been working with the Scottish Housing News team in leading the successful delivery of the Accessible Housing Summit at Dundee’s V&A Museum on 26 September 2024.
Reflecting on her career, Lorna noted: “There is no doubt social, affordable and accessible homes change lives.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with so many like-minded colleagues in making these much-needed homes a reality for people and families across Scotland.
“I really have enjoyed my time at Horizon, working with so many dedicated, kind and caring people – staff and board members, and of course tenants.
“My career has been full of people who’ve gone out of their way to care for and support people to try and make their lives better, and for me, that’s what it’s been all about.
“As I remember all the people and places I’ve worked and all my experiences, from the fantastic to the nerve-wracking, and everything in between, I wouldn’t change any of it.”
Lorna joined Horizon, part of the Link group of companies, in 2019, following her role as Stirling Council’s chief housing officer.
Horizon Housing Chairperson Bob McDougall said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Lorna the past five years and I am extremely grateful for her service to Horizon and the communities we serve.
“On behalf of the Horizon Board and staff team, I wish Lorna a very long and happy retirement.”
Link Group CEO Jon Turner said: “I would like to thank Lorna for all the hard work, expertise, and dedication she brought to the role.
“Her advocacy for accessible homes has brought great value to Horizon and the wider Link group, and of course the people and communities we work with, and I hope this focus continues as part of her legacy.
“Best wishes for a fantastic retirement Lorna.”
